Doohong Min: Artist Biography

Doohong Min was born in Seoul, Korea in 1979. His family loved art. His grandfather studied Confucian Puritans and possessed great penmanship. His mother was a classical dance professor at Dong-duk women’s University. His father was huge collector of classical music. Growing up, Doohong was surrounded by different mediums of art and this has influenced him to pursue art as a profession.He first became interested in art in high school and later decided to major in design at Academy of Art University. In 1999, he came to San Francisco to attend college. A few years into college, he switched his major to painting. During college, he spent half of his time in Korea and the other half in San Francisco. During his college years, Doohong went back and forth between two different cultures.Impressionists, French and American realists, inspired him. Their ability to describe light and color that are not touchable is the most fascinating for Doohong. In addition to solid craftsmanship, his goal is to put strong form and structure with vibrating color and light on top of interesting texture.
